Learn to Fish Events

_dsc3038All the festival events below are ideal for beginners or for those who have just started on their fishing careers. Several are aimed specifically at youngsters but there are also plenty of opportunities for grown up youngsters to get involved!  All the tackle and equipment you need on the day will be provided - but if you do have your own by all means bring it along.




All Day Event at Bessy Beck - Saturday 15th May
An all day fishing event with a huge choice of coaching sessions covering every aspect of flyfishing. Whether you're an absolute beginner , novice, improver or  experienced angler you'll find plenty to keep you busy - and improve your fishing at the same time! The admission fee covers everything and then its up to you to pick the sessions you fancy. Pre booking is essential - there may only be a limited number of admissions available on the day.

Family Fishing Day at New Mills - Sunday 16th May

A fishing day out for all the family at New Mills Trout Fishery near Brampton. This is a great place to catch your first trout and learn the basic skills of fishing. We'll teach you how to cast a fly and all the techniques that should help you to land one of New Mills monster fish.

Juniors Fly Fishing at Farletonview - Sunday 16th May

A great start for aspiring young fly fishers. Bob and Vera Carlson will take you through all the basic steps to ensure you catch that all important first fish. They'll show you how to cast, how to fish different methods and how to land your first trout.

Junior Flyfishing at New Mills - Monday 17th May

Homework will have to wait! This is an evening session for aspiring young fly fishers held at New Mills Trout Fishery - and an action packed introduction into the sport. (Don't forget to tell Mum to have the oven ready for when you get back.)  You'll get two, very full, hours of top class instruction from our resident instructors. They'll show you how to put the tackle together, how to cast a fly - and most importantly, how to play and land that big fish.

Ladies Evening at New Mills - Wednesday 19th May

A girls night out with a difference!  And a chance for mums and daughters to prove what we've known all along -  that women really do make better anglers. Come along for an informal evening's instruction with all the tackle and equipment provided. We'll start the session with basic casting skills and hopefully end it with your first fish on the bank - and guarantee a lot of laughs in between!.

Family Fishing Tasters - Saturday 22nd May

Come along and try your hand at coarse fishing. Three events at three different venues around Cumbria - all designed for absolute beginners of any age and a great family activity. Atkinsons Tarn, near Kendal, Mirehouse Ponds at Whitehaven and Crofton Lake near Carlilse. All tuition and tackle provide - just bring enthusiam! Sorry - all these events now fully booked.

Ladies Fly Fishing - Sunday 23rd May

Held at Farletonview Fishery near Milnthorpe this one day introductory course is run by Bob and Vera Carlson - and strictly ladies only ! Come along and enjoy a first class introduction to flyfishing in a friendly and informal atmosphere. Bob and Vera specialise in coaching new anglers and will ensure you get every chance to catch your first trout on the fly. Sorry - this event is now fully booked.
