The club boat at Kentmere will now be available for use from 6th April

The smaller lake, East Bay, holds wild browns and stocked browns averaging 2lbs with an occasional larger fish up to 5lbs. The larger lake, which extends to some 10 acres, holds wild browns averaging three quarters of a pound but with much larger specimen fish present - wild brown trout of five pounds were taken on opening day 2008 and in 2009.

The ground around both lakes is boggy, uneven and full of holes to trap the unwary. Very deep water is found right off the banks. For this reason East Bay has a number of purpose-built platforms and walkways. The main lake is best fished from the club boat although there is also some bank access. Members wishing to use the club boat must purchase a key. Use of the club boat is also subject to the safety considerations detailed here. Fishing is not permitted in the river at either end of the main lake.

Kentmere is managed to appeal to those who enjoy more natural, imitative fishing and presents a more challenging alternative to the rainbow trout fisheries. Although a two fish bag limit is permitted it is hoped that anglers will exercise restraint. (There are plenty of rainbow trout for table fish elsewhere on WADAA waters.)

Please note that in keeping with this policy sight bobs, bite indicators or any other ‘floatation devices’ are not permitted at this fishery.

The area around the fishery is a haven for wildlife with deer, foxes , badgers and numerous different bird species. It is also a haven for every type of biting insect God ever created. Midges, giant bloodsucking clegs and things that buzz in your ears are present in dense clouds on warm, muggy days and summer evenings. Insect repellent is not just advised - it is lifesaving!

Kentmere is open from 15th March until 30th September inclusive and daily from dawn until dusk.
