Castle Head Fishery is WADAA's newest coarse fishery situated between Lindale and Grange over Sands. The lake occupies the former bed of the River Winster and as a result is long, narrow and almost canal like in character. An otter proof fence protects one half of the fishery creating a more managed , well stocked water holding good numbers of carp, tench, rudd and roach with a few large bream and the odd decent perch. The upper half of the fishery is much more natural in character with reedbeds and willows and holds some immaculate fish of the same species - albeit in lower density.
The Association has constructed a dozen good pegs and restocked the fishery a couple of years ago with substantial numbers of tench, roach and carp. A few large carp to 20lbs, tench and bream to 9lbs, rescued from Holehird, were also introduced in 2009.
Early indications have been excellent with fish responsive and active throughout the day. The tench in particular are showing up in good numbers with plenty of fish around the 3lb - 5lb mark. Good roach and rudd are also a feature. Castle Head can catch the wind and calmer days are likely to give the best results. In fact much seems to depend on the wind direction when it comes to the choice of pegs with fish generally concentrating downwind.
This is also a good fishery for younger anglers with some double size pegs and plenty of 'bits' to keep them entertained.
The fishing at Castle Head is reserved for WADAA members - more details here.
