skills awards

As your fishing skills improve you will be able to work towards a number of Kingfisher Awards. These not only show how well you are doing but also mean you can start to attend some of the higher level coaching sessions. There are awards for both fly fishing and coarse fishing and we run both training and assessment days to help you reach each level. You will get a certificate and badge for each award you achieve. There are no age limits - you can start whenever you like.

Kingfisher Bronze Award

This is the first level award that shows you are able to fish competantly on your own. You will be able to assemble your own tackle, tie up casts or rigs and select bait or flies, demonstrate safe casting, competantly hook, land and release fish and have an understanding of basic techniques.

Kingfisher Silver Award

Silver Award holders will have progressed to learning a wider range of techniques, they will be competant casters and have a good understanding of  fish, their feeding habits and their environment.
This is the highest level and not easy to achieve. A Gold Award shows you are an experienced and competant angler with a high level of skill accross a range of techniques. Gold fly fishers will have very good casting ability and show they can employ the full range of different techniques and tactics. Gold coarse anglers will be very competant right accross the board from specimen hunting to match fishing.
Members who have gained their Gold Awards will be eligible for Cumbria's new coaching scheme for talented young anglers and will also be able to enter national compeitions for their age group.
